For today's blog post I want to highlight some comic book charities that are doing something to give back to the community.
The first is comicsforheroes.org:
This is an organization that gives comics to our troops overseas, sends comics to schools and attempts to get comics in the hands of those that may not be able to afford them. Here is their mission statement that is on their website:
"Comics For Heroes’ mission is to get comics to those who aren't able to get them on their own and promote everything good about comics. We do this by getting your donated comics to troops overseas and those not fortunate enough to be able to afford comics on their own, getting comics to kids in schools, trying to encourage people to pick up comics for the first time, spreading the word about the good that comics can do, and the positive influence they can have."
To donate to Comics for Heroes go to http://comicsforheroes.org/how-to-donate/how-to-donate/
The second comic charity I would like to bring to your attention is Comics for Kids:
They do not seem to have a website at the moment but you can look them up at the above link or on their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Comicsforkids or contact them via twitter at @comics4_kids.
On their blog they give the following information about their charity:
"We are a non profit orgization based out of Tishomingo Mississippi. Our mission is to help kids love to read comics. We were founded in March of 2011. Our President and Founder is Michael Whitehead."
Lastly, I would be remiss if I did not mention DC Comics' We Can Be Heroes campaing:
DC is doing their part in fighting hunger in the Horn of Africa. You can donate to the cause at https://donate.wecanbeheroes.org/
All three of these are great charities fighting to make a difference not only in our local communities but globally as well. If you have some disposable income lying around that you don't know what to do with, please consider supporting these great causes.
