Dark Characters Set to Take Center Stage in DCnU

CBR teased an image from DC Comics of what looks to be their next big event putting the main Earth's mystical characters center stage.  This is pretty damn awesome and although I firmly believe Dr. Fate belongs on Earth 2, this makes me wish he could travel between Earth 1 and Earth 2 so he can be with the rest of the mystics.  Dr. Fate is missing out on all this awesome magical goodness.  At any rate, the upcoming story looks awesome and am looking really forward to it.

Tribute to Nabu

This is a long time coming.  I've had tributes to a few of the folks who have worn his Helm, but not one for him yet.  As he is the one who gave Dr. Fate his powers he definitely deserves a tribute.  So here it is, a tribute to your favorite Egyptian Magician/Alien/Lord of Order/Assyrian Deity: A Tribute to Nabu

More Dr. Fate in Fighting Video Game

So here is more Dr. Fate in some kind of fighting game.  Notice the first video includes most of the classic JSA.  So very cool!:

And here is a second one of Dr. Fate vs "Strong Guy" :

The videos are really cool.  I'm still not exactly sure if this is just for show or an actual video game.  Here is the site that it is posted from:'s/the-doctor-is-in!-dr-fate-that-is/

Dr. Fate News: Dr. Fate in the Injustice Comics?

Did you check out today's Injustice preview?  We now know where Alfred took Batman after his confrontation with Superman...the Tower of Fate!  I hope this means a certain Doctor will be showing up in the comics.  Which is good news and bad news.  It'll be cool to see Dr. Fate show up in the comics but we all know it is not going to go well for him and the JSA.

Check out the entire preview on CBR at:

F.U. I'm Dr. Fate: Don't Believe Everything Dr. Fate Says

Not only was the Golden Age Dr. Fate a ruthless mofo, but he was also kind of a liar.   He would go around making up stories about how he was created/received his powers.  The only reason he would do this is because he is Dr. Fate and he could say and do whatever the f@ck he wants.  Johnny Thunder is about to get and Ankh blast to the face for being a sarcastic prick and questioning Dr. Fate's story.

Earth 2 # 19 and Phantom Stranger # 15 Reviews

This week I am tackling on two reviews.  One is the standard Earth 2 review I do whenever Dr. Fate shows up and the other is this week's Phantom Stranger because it was so great that I had to write about it.  As always, these reviews do contain spoilers so be forewarned.

First up, Earth 2 #19:

Another great Earth 2 issue by Tom Taylor and Nicola Scott (with help from Rocha).  The current arc continues to develop as our heroes are trying to regroup from the last battle only to have things go from bad to worse.  Superman takes both of the Mr. Terrifics hostage and intends to brainwash them with the help of Darkseid's cronies in order to use their smarts for their cause.  We also see the possible cause of Superman's turn to the dark side as he, himself might be brainwashed as well.

A new character is also introduced which will probably help our heroes cause in defeating Superman.  Lastly, we see Dr. Fate's prophecies start to come to fruition as the "Angel in the slaughter" is revealed and lends some assistance to our injured, and retreating heroes.  We also see that there is hope for our "Green" hero that has been MIA the last few issues.  Overall the story is great, and I am starting to kind of get an idea of how Superman might be neutralized in the future.  Nice to see some kind of light at the end of this tunnel, but I'm sure it's only going to get worse before it gets better.  Which is part of the fun in this book.  Tom Taylor is taking the readers in a super-wild ride that has tons of twists and turns, and I'm enjoying every second of it.

On to Phantom Stranger #15:

As many of my readers know, I have a love hate relationship with J.M. DeMatteis.  I absolutely loved his Dr. Fate mini-series in the 80's, but detested his ongoing Dr. Fate series with Eric & Linda Strauss as the protagonists.  I also love what he is doing with Justice League Dark but had dropped the Phantom Stranger from my pull list.  Well this week's issue was so freaking awesome that I have decided to put it back on my pull list.

This was DeMatteis at his best!  The story was dark, mystical and magical.  Loved to see the Phantom Stranger battling Blight.  The art by both Blanco and Sepulveda is also great and matches the tone of DeMatteis' story perfectly.  This issue was probably my favorite of this week's comic haul.  It was perfect in every way.  Especially the ending.  The ending/cliff hanger was so damn good.  Loved to see the Stranger get angry and go after God.  I can't wait to read this month's Constantine to see what happens, I only wish that it was DeMatteis continuing the story on the Constantine issue.  Man, oh man, how I wish Mr. DeMatteis had written his Dr. Fate ongoing series from the late 80's early 90's in this fashion.  He can write these sort of mystical stories so well.

First New Comic Book Day of 2014!

Today is the first New Comic Book Day of 2014!  And what a way to kick it off with a new issue of Earth 2!  Our heroes are in deep trouble, hopefully things start turning around for them in this issue.  Dr. Fate might have to call on some help as he is doing below in today's Dr. Fate Awesome installment.

Dr. Fate Quotes

Thought this would be a great way to start the new year with some great quotes from Dr. Fate's animated appearances.  My favorite quote is in response to MMH's question: "Have you come to offer help?" To which Dr. fate replies: "Not help, hope."
