Earth 2 # 22 Preview

Mancave has the preview for next week's Earth 2 #22!  The issue features Alan Scott's return! Okay, I'm starting to get excited about the comic again.  I expressed some of my frustrations about the series in my review of the last issue, but it now looks like our heroes are going to start turning things around (I hope).  Also, from the one panel below, it looks like Dr. Fate might start snapping out of his shell shock.  I really hope that he does, and makes a full recovery.  Come on Khalid!  We believe in you!

Meditation and Dr. Fate

One of the things I really like about Dr. Fate is that he is one of a few superheroes that recognizes the power of meditation.  He uses meditation for things such as astral projection, traveling into different dimensions, and just to ponder on different problems that present themselves in the average lives of super-powered beings.

Doctor Fate Don't Put The Helmet On

Cool video featuring Inza singing to Kent Nelson not to put the Helmet on.  It's a parody of Jolene, don't know who that is, but props to these girls for the Dr. Fate-centric video.

Earth 2 June Solicitation

The DC Comics solicitations are out now on!  Check out the Earth 2 June Solicit:

"Aquawoman leads Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and The Flash to battle Beguiler in the middle of the ocean! And Superman makes an unprecedented move that could change the future of Earth 2!"

The good news is that it looks like our heroes are beginning to push back against Darkseid's forces and it looks like Jay and Alan are back in the story line.  The bad news is that from the description it looks like Dr. Fate is still not playing much of a role in the story line. Let's hope that changes.

Another solicitation I wanted to highlight is the Phantom Stranger's June solicit:

Love the cover as it features two of DC's best mystical characters and of course the Spectre is representing for the old school JSA fans.  To me, he will always be part of Earth 2.

Mysterious Figure in Fan Made MoS2 Poster

By now most of us have seen this fan made Batfleck poster for MoS2.  But have you guys noticed that mysterious figure in the background?

Could it be?  Is that that the silhouette of the Golden Crusader?  Is the Ankh Warrior watching the developments of the MoS2 film?  Does he have a hand in Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman's fated meeting?  Let's take a closer look adding a little brightness to the image:

I don't know, but to me it most certainly looks like Doctor Fate watching over Batman's shoulder!  Do we know who made this "fan made poster?"  How do we know it wasn't made by a WB executive?  Could this be a hint that Dr. Fate will be in the MoS2 film or perhaps the Justice League movie!?  Probably not, but it's fun to engage in wishful thinking. =)

DC News Recap

Hi everyone.  I've been crazy busy with work and life this week so I have not been able to post much.  Lots of awesome news coming from DC comics live action shows this week.  Lets start with this awesome image of Constantine:

Really excited to see one of DC comics mystics on television!  Hopefully this means other mystics will show up on his show, maybe even the entire Justice League Dark!  That would be awesome.  Of course, my hope is that Dr. Fate, being a magical/mystical character, will make at least a guest appearance on the program.

Next up: The Flash!
This week we also got to see what the Flash costume will look like on screen.  I know it has received mixed reactions but personally I think it looks fantastic.  Can't wait to see it on my television screen.

Lastly, Newsarama put out the June solicitations from DC Comics'  Future's End weekly series and from the description it looks like we may have a war between the Main DC Earth and Earth 2.  If this is true, then I hope that Dr. Fate finds some mystical allies within those five years because I can't see him taking on all the mystical beings from the Main Earth alone.  He's going to need some help.  Check out the descriptions here:

Earth 2 #21 Review

Okay, I'll admit, this review is mostly on me.  It's my fault for picking a C (more like a D) list character to be my very favorite character, knowing that he will rarely be the main focus of a comic's story line.  But like most of the heroes in the Earth 2 book, I'm beginning to lose hope.

I was super excited when it was announced that Tom Taylor would be the one taking over James Robinson after Robinson's unfortunate departure from the book.  I told everyone on Twitter that if anyone could keep Earth 2 great, Tom Taylor would be the one to do it.  However, since Tom came on board, Dr. Fate has had the crap kicked out of him, rarely makes more that one-to-two panel appearance in the comic, and has been reduced to a shell-shocked, babbling burden.  To say that I am disappointed is putting it mildly.  I was excited to see Dr. Fate on the cover of this month's issue, only to have him show up on two panels.  And I am beginning to lose hope.

I felt like the last issue was great, Tom introduced some humor and hope into the story line, only to have this issue continue to tear down our heroes even further.  One of the Golden Age characters that Robinson brought back to life in the comics appears to be killed off as well.  I am beginning to lose hope.  And as the Golden Age characters that everyone looked forward to seeing revived in this book are getting killed off or sidelined, we are getting new characters that were not part of that era and Batman and Superman are once again the main focus of this book.  When Earth 2/JSA fans looked towards this book as something different, we did not expect this kind of different.  I am beginning to lose hope.

What little hope I have left for this Earth 2 book is focused on our heroes ability to be able to defeat evil Supes and Darkseid as well as hoping to see Dr. Fate and the other (original) Earth 2 characters get more face time.  I know I have been writing a ton of positive reviews on Earth 2, and they have all been sincere.  But they were also based on hope.  I kept hoping Dr. Fate would have some role in the next issue.  I kept hoping Jay and Alan would show up soon.  I kept hoping that our heroes would begin to push back against Supes.  Now I find myself hoping that there is another Earth 2 book on its way and that it showcases more of the Golden Age characters (including Dr. Fate).  I find myself hoping that Dr. Fate will somehow make the jump to the main Earth after all the Forever Evil stuff is done so he can join the Justice League Dark.  But most of all I find myself losing hope in the Earth 2 book and it's my own fault.

Dr. Fate Earth 2 Cover

Rejoice Fate Fanatics! (is that a thing?)  This week we get this awesome close up of Dr. Fate on the cover of this month's issue!  Let's hope Dr. Fate has a big part in the story and that Khalid finally snaps out of his shell shock from his fight with evil Superman.
